How to upgrade

Upgrading from within the OS
  • Connect the Elektron device to the computer via USB and switch it on.
  • Open the Transfer application on your computer.
  • On the Transfer CONNECTION page, set the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports to your Elektron device.
  • On the Transfer DROP page, drag and drop the OS file. The OS file is then automatically transferred to the Elektron device and the OS update initiates. A progress bar is visible on device screen when receiving the OS.
  • On your device. Press [YES] to confirm the OS update.

If your current device OS does not fully support Transfer, you will be automatically directed to Transfer’s LEGACY OS UPGRADE page after you drag and drop the OS file on the Transfer DROP page. Follow the instructions on the LEGACY OS UPGRADE page to proceed with the OS upgrade.

When the update is done the unit will restart by itself.

Upgrading from the Startup Menu
  • Connect the Elektron device to the computer via the device’s MIDI port. (You cannot use the USB port).
  • Hold down the [FUNC] button while powering on the Elektron device. This takes you to the STARTUP menu.
  • Press the [TRIG 4] key to enter OS UPGRADE mode.
  • Open the Transfer application on your computer.
  • On the Transfer CONNECTION page, click “LEGACY OS UPGRADE mode”
  • On the Transfer LEGACY OS UPGRADE mode page browse to, and select, the downloaded OS syx file.
  • Select your MIDI interface.
  • In Transfer, press “UPGRADE”.

A progress bar is visible on device screen when receiving the OS.

When the update is done the unit will restart by itself.

After some upgrades the bootstrap is also upgraded. This upgrade is performed right after the first restart of the device. Do not turn the power off during the upgrade.

Downgrading the device OS is not supported, and is performed at your own risk. User content may be lost.

Improvements

Added a new parameter, NOTE PARAM, in the PERSONALIZE menu where you can select the interaction behavior for whether the NOTE parameter settings should follow the set scale or not. Either turn the knob to set note value in the chromatic scale and push turn the knob to only select values that follow the set scale or the other way around.

On the mixer pages, the name of the page is now shown instead of the track number.

When using the page loop functionality in GRID RECORDING mode, the master playback position is now indicated by a blinking TRIG key on the top row (TRIG 1-8), and the currently played looping page is indicated by a blinking TRIG key on the bottom row (TRIG 9-16).

Improved the level metering on the sampling RECORDER page.

Bug fixes

Transferring samples to the Digitakt II from a computer using Transfer was slower than expected.

The device could sometimes experience slow operation and crashes when the +Drive was getting filled up with content.

Some devices could sometimes exhibit problems with double-trigging when pressing the keys.

The external input gain was lower than on the Digitakt I.

Renaming a recorded sample resulted in an ERROR message being shown.

The pitch bend range was not -128 to +127. This resulted in unwanted behaviors when controlling the pitch bend.

Import of older Digitakt I projects could result in samples being mapped incorrectly.

When importing a project created on Digitakt I, the compressor sidechain source was not correctly converted.

When importing a Digitakt I project with GLOBAL FX/MIX turned on caused errors on the EXTERNAL MIXER page.

The LFO destination SAMPLE SLOT could only be modulated if the track used the ONESHOT machine.

Quickly pressing [FUNC] + [TRK] twice changed mute mode instead of exiting mute mode.

When in Euclidean mode, pressing already placed note trigs resulted in trigs remaining on the sequencer when switching to normal sequencer mode.

While transferring samples to the device while in the sample browser, the title bar intermittently flashed the full path of the current directory rather than just showing the current directory name.

Navigating up and down deep folder structures in the sample browser was slow.

The Sample auto-preview toggle’s state was not saved after reboot and always defaulted back to OFF.

The retrig parameters RTRG, VFAD, LEN, and RATE could not be recorded in LIVE RECORDING mode.

Pressing [TRK] + [TRIG] + [NO] gave a reload error message even though the reload worked.

The page looping behavior was not working as intended.

Live recording while looping a specific sequencer page could erroneously delete trigs from another sequencer page.

It was not possible to manually preview samples if AUTO-PREVIEW was set to ON.

Several of the chorus and delay parameters shared the same NRPN values.

It was not possible to control several FX parameter’s values using CC.

Sample preview audio was not sent over USB Audio.

When ENCODER DEST was set to INT+EXT, the chorus CC values were not sent to the correct channel.

When in STEP RECORDING or GRID RECORDING mode, entering and exiting the KEYBOARD SETUP menu also resulted in returning to the recording mode.

While in STEP RECORDING mode, exiting the KEYBOARD SETUP menu by pressing [NO] erroneously cleared the active step on the sequencer.

Pressing and holding [UP] or [DOWN] to scroll LFO destinations for the DESTparameter closed the destinations list.

The UI froze when saving a MIDI preset from track 16.

The VAL9 and VAL10 parameters did not send CC data on MIDI track 16.

The CC learn functionality could capture data received on the incorrect MIDI channel.

When using the CC learn functionality, it could show that it had learned a new CC value for an encoder even though it still controlled an earlier set CC value.

Some factory presets had invalid data and sample references, resulting in playback errors.

The MIDI track’s LFO destinations were sometimes not restored correctly after pattern reload.

When creating a chain, the pattern selection popup could, under some circumstances, erroneously appear.

It was not indicated in the LOAD PRESET SORTING menu in the FILTER section that a MIDI tag was applied.

The graphics in the SETUP menu were glitchy when scrolling from LEGATO to NOTE PRIORITY.

Part of the screen graphics sometimes disappeared when saving a recording.

Controlling the sample slot and sample bank parameters using CC did not work in other modes than Oneshot.

A track with retrig enabled did not retrigger when the device was in KEYBOARD mode.

Improvements

Added a VELOCITY TO VOL setting in the SETUP menu.

Added the possibility to select which sequencer pages the sequencer should play and loop in GRID RECORDING MODE.

Added the possibility to quickly perform pattern chaining when the patterns are within the same bank.

Added a PERSONALIZE menu to group certain settings.

Added the possibility to disable the auto copying of placed sequencer trigs when adding sequencer pages.

Added an option (U/D KEY MODE) in the PERSONALIZE menu that decides the functionality of the [UP]/[DOWN] keys.

Improved the SETUP menu structure by merging the kit and track parameters in the same view.

Added the INT TO MAIN parameter to the AUDIO ROUTING menu.

Added TO MAIN and TO SEND EFFECTS parameters in the AUDIO ROUTING menu.

The default setting for the PRE/POST FADER parameter in the AUDIO ROUTING menu was changed to POST.

Prepared mutes [TRIG] keys are now red (tracks to be muted) and orange (tracks to be unmuted).

Added the possibility to change characters with the selected parameters DATA ENTRY knob when naming VAL parameters on MIDI tracks.

The current song name is now shown in the SONG menu.

The current pattern name is now shown in the PATTERN menu.

Waveform views are now generated faster when loading a project.

If the destination list is already open, it is now possible to use [UP]/[DOWN] to change the LFO DESTINATION value.

Changed the names of the stereo options for the SRC parameter in the recorder from “L+R” to “L R”.

Minor updates to the FILL and COND parameter screen graphic to make communication clearer.

Removed the popup on the releasing the [PTN] key after holding the [PTN] key and having performed a COPY/PASTE/CLEAR operation.

It is now possible to cancel MIDI learn by the same [FUNC] + DATA ENTRY knob press that initiated the MIDI learn functionality.

Added snap values to the CC VAL parameter.

Adjusted the sample browser’s functionality when accessing it from the SAMP parameter on the SRC page to better match how samples are loaded when accessed from here.

When in the sample browser, a long press on [NO] now takes you back to the root of the SAMPLES menu.

Bug fixes

PRE and NEI trig conditions could not be utilized in combination with the PROB and FILL conditions.

The SRC machine Werp did not play back samples correctly.

Saving a preset from a specific trig together with its parameter locks did not exit the SAVE PRESET menu automatically.

Presets were incorrectly tagged when saved to preset pool.

It was not possible to sample lock samples from different banks.

When creating/loading a new project the unit could in some circumstances appear unresponsive.

Playback restart erroneously reset parameter changes in PERFORM KIT mode.

It was not possible to select LFO1 destinations on MOD page 2 (LFO 2) on MIDI tracks.

Swing did not work correctly when applied to sequences created using the EUCLIDEAN sequencer mode.

Pattern change did not occur when releasing a [TRIG] key while holding the [PTN] key.

It was not possible to close and leave the AUDIO ROUTING page by pressing a [PARAMETER PAGE] key.

Unused patterns in the factory PRESETS project were using the wrong samples.

Pressing DATA ENTRY knob D when in the QUANTIZE menu could in some cases open the modulation or sample list.

The modulation setup pages for pitch bend, velocity mod, mod wheel, aftertouch, and breath controller were still available and configurable on MIDI tracks even though they have no effect.

Some of the CC and NPRN values were the same for several parameters.

The waveform from a previous recording could, under some circumstances, be shown after recording a new sample.

The UI froze while loading a new kit if the samples from a previously loaded kit were still loading.

The screen graphics for the VFAD parameter were not correct.

The sample recorder’s MON parameter values and icon did not represent the function correctly.

The toast menu on the screen could in some circumstances read randomized/reloaded after such action was initiated, even though no parameters were affected by the action.

The test mode did not work properly.

The checkered overlay that indicates the slice selection on the sample waveform on SRC page 2 extended beyond the waveform.

Audio sent out over USB audio as well as audio sampled in the recorder could cause unwanted noise if the signal level was loud enough.

The sample recorder did not work properly while the project’s samples were still loading.

Two shortcuts ([SAMPLING] + [YES] to arm the recorder and [SAMPLING] + [NO] to cancel) were missing for the recorder.

MIDI tracks could not be pasted to an audio track.

The recorder’s right VU meter showed an incorrect signal.

External CC control of the BANK and SBNK parameter on MIDI tracks did not work.

Saving a preset from a specific trig together with its parameter locks to the preset pool did not work correctly.

It was not possible to quick mute while in GRID RECORDING mode.

The pre/post fader gain levels for USB audio were not correct.

The default values for the AMP HOLD, DEC, and SUS were not correct.

It was not possible to copy a MIDI preset from one bank to another.

The Preset browser opened when pressing and turning the LEVEL/DATA knob.

The wrong error message was shown when trying to copy a MIDI preset to the pool.

Using up/down arrows to parameter lock the SAMP parameter changed the track value of the unlocked SAMP parameter.
